Maynooth University, a constituent university of the National University of Ireland located in Maynooth, County Kildare, is notable for being Ireland's youngest university until 2019. Established from the secular faculties of St Patrick's College by the Universities Act of 1997, it is the only university town in Ireland. The university encompasses two campuses, an older southern campus with 19th-century buildings and a modern northern campus, collectively home to over 13,000 students and 900 staff from over 20 countries, making it Ireland's smallest but fastest-growing university.
The transformation into a university in 1997 expanded its academic portfolio, including arts, Celtic studies, philosophy, science, finance, engineering, business studies, and law. Notably, Finnish academic Eeva Leinonen became the first woman president of the university in 2021
The two campuses, North and South, are distinct in their historic and modern appeals, offering comprehensive facilities, including on-campus accommodation, a range of academic departments, and various research institutes, all contributing to a dynamic and inclusive educational environment.
